Mark Grove - Sales Director, Daily Express
I was Educated at Salford University - BA & MA in Politics & History and got into Media Sales as it was sold to me by a recruitment consultant as a fast moving industry where those with intelligence & a hard work ethic could progress a lot quicker than in many other comparable industries.
My first job was on the Daily Star as a sales executive - between 1998 & 2000. I left to join The Scotsman Newspaper in January 2000 & was promoted to Group Head in 2002.
After 5 years at The Scotsman I rejoined the Daily Star as a Group Head. My job now involves managing a team of three Sales Executives. We jointly account for 25 million and represent the Daily Star to the London Media Agencies and client marketing teams. This involves relationship building; presentations; after hours entertaining; negotiating deals; and negotiating & managing contracts. Currently my job includes: establishing & maintaining relationships with senior agency personnel; ensuring the newspaper is paginated as profitably as possible; ensure adverts run correctly; developing my team so they are capable of promotion.
The environment is hard working; honest; transparent; and rewarding of effort.
